Hair Transplants
Hair transplants and restoration for men and women.
Hair loss is common among men and women of all ages due to genetics, hormones, medical issues, or aging. Losing your hair can be embarrassing and frustrating, and it has social implications about masculinity, femininity, and vitality. Dr. Sturm offers a variety of hair transplant techniques that can restore fuller hair and a more desirable hairline, eyebrows or beard.

Fuller, More Youthful Hair
Patients experiencing hair loss can achieve thicker, fuller hair with hair transplant surgery. Your own hair is used to create an improved hairline and thicker appearing hair.
Thicker Facial Hair and Brows
Hair can not only be transplanted to the scalp; it can also be transplanted to the eyebrows to fill in where they are thinning or have been over-plucked. In addition, hair can be used to fill out a thin beard, mustache, and even chest hair.
Are hair transplants permanent?
The hair that is transplanted will grow as if it is in the area where it was harvested. Since we harvest from areas that continue to grow even with hair loss, your transplanted hairs should continue to grow throughout life.
What's an eyebrow transplant?
Eyebrow transplant can be performed using either the strip method or the FUE method. This procedure will harvest hair from the scalp and place it on the eyebrows to fill in thin or patchy eyebrows with your own hair.
This can take between two and three hours to perform and achieves more natural, lasting results than tattooing your eyebrows.
What's a beard transplant?
Similar to an eyebrow transplant, beard transplant surgery also uses either the strip or FUE method to extract hair from the scalp. The harvested hair is then placed in the target area to provide men with a fuller, thicker beard. This procedure can also be used for men who have splits or patchy areas in their beard or for those who struggle to grow facial hair.
The time required for beard surgery depends on the number of follicles transplanted and surface area to be filled.
How long is hair transplant recovery?
Recovery time is usually minimal following your hair transplant procedure. The transplanted follicles can be noticeable and look like “dots” or scabs for about a week. After that time, you can wash your hair. You may have swelling of the forehead and eyes for three to five days.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
During your hair transplant procedure, hair follicles are harvested from the back of your head using the FUE technique. Each follicle is harvested individually, eliminating a linear scar. The follicles are then placed where you desire more hair, which can be the scalp, beard, or eyebrows. The hairline can also be advanced or shaped as desired.
The time required depends on the number of grafts transplanted. A small transplant of 500 grafts may take three to four hours, while a large transplant of 3,000 grafts can take up to 8 hours.
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
FUT is also known as the “strip method.” The follicles are harvested with an incision on the back of the scalp. The highest density of quality follicles are able to be harvested this way. Careful closure techniques make the incision hide easily in the hair.
The follicles are placed in the area where more hair is desired in the same manner as with the FUE technique.
Will FUE leave scarring?
With the FUE technique, you will have small pink dots on the back of the scalp that heal very quickly and that will not be visible in a few weeks. Because of meticulous closure with the strip technique, the incision heals as a thin line that is easily hidden with hair.
What will my hair transplant results look like?
After your hair has grown back, you will notice fuller and more natural hair in the target area. Hair transplant surgery has a high success rate, and most patients are pleased with their results for many years after their treatment.
How much hair is required for a beard transplant?
Depending on the patient’s personal preference, a full beard may require 3,000 grafts of hair, while minimal corrections typically need 500 to 1,000 grafts.
Am I a good candidate for hair restoration?
Patients in their 30s or older who are experiencing hair loss are usually good candidates for hair restoration surgery. Other influencing factors include scalp laxity, hereditary history, hair density and texture, and patterns of alopecia (baldness).
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
In platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, we draw your blood, just like when you have labs done. The blood is centrifuged, and the platelets that contain growth factors are extracted. The platelets and growth factors are injected into the scalp.
This procedure can take up to 15 minutes to perform.
Most patients require a series of three injections about one month apart.
PRP stimulates more hairs to grow and the hairs that are present to be thicker.
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are the messenger molecules from stem cells that stimulate other cells to be active and grow. When these are injected into the scalp, they stimulate the follicles to go into the growth phase creating thicker, healthier hair! This does not require a blood draw and is more concentrated than PRP.
