To get rid of a bump on your nose we can do it either through surgery or with filler. With surgery, we file the bone and/or cartilage to smooth out the bump. If we are just using a filler to address the bump, that is considered a non-surgical nose job and we fill above and below the bump to create a smooth line in the bridge.
Why did my nose get a bump?
A bump on your nose is usually the result of fullness where the areas of the nasal bones and the cartilaginous septum come together. In most cases this is genetic, however, the bump could have been caused by trauma to the nose. Loss of support of your tip can also cause a bump as the tip droops.
How do I get rid of the bump on my nose?
The way to get rid of a bump on your nose depends on what’s causing it. We usually take down the bump using a rasp, which is just like a file. For cartilage, I take it down millimeter by millimeter to get exactly the profile that we want, depending on if you want a very straight profile or more of a curved profile. If the bump is caused by loss of tip support, then that’s something that requires surgery to lift that tip up to where it’s supposed to be.
We can also just use filler above and below that bump to make the bridge appear straighter. That usually lasts around a year, but it’s a lot less invasive than having surgery.
Can you flatten a nose bump?
Yes, you can flatten a nose bump. It’s one of the most common things we do as rhinoplasty surgeons. We take down the bump, which is mostly a combination of boned, and cartilage and make it really nice and smooth. It’s a simple procedure that is done often.
