What Is a Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to reduce signs of aging around the eyes and eyelids. During the surgery, Dr. Sturm aims to give the eyes and surrounding area a more refreshed and youthful appearance. Depending on the specific needs of the patient, the procedure typically involves the removal of excess skin and/or fat from the eyelids.
There are two distinct types of eyelid lift: the upper eyelid lift and the lower eyelid lift.
Upper Eyelid Lift
An upper eyelid lift is a procedure performed to remove excess skin from the upper eyelids. This excess skin can cause the eyelids to droop, which can create a “tired eyes” appearance and hamper the field of vision. During upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Sturm makes tiny incisions within the natural creases of the upper eyelids and carefully removes the excess skin and tissue. As a result, the eyes become more open and alert to create a more refreshed facial appearance.
Lower Eyelid Lift
A lower eyelid lift is a procedure used to eliminate the appearance of bags, dark circles, and wrinkles underneath the eyes. To achieve this, Dr. Sturm makes small, inconspicuous incisions just beneath the lashes of the lower eyelids. She then removes excess skin and/or fat, which results in smoother skin and gives the eyes a more rested, lively appearance.
