Rhinoplasty
My Comprehensive Approach to Rhinoplasty
Being in the center of your face, your nose is your most prominent feature. If its shape is out of proportion, it can dominate the face. For this reason, rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures. Impaired breathing is another reason to surgically alter the structure of your nose. When most people consider rhinoplasty, they think, “She’s going to break my nose.” However, with my tools and precision, I am able to move the bone in a specific, controlled way. So, think of it as shaping a diamond instead of cracking a walnut!
During rhinoplasty, I can make a wide nose narrower, widen a narrow nose, straighten a crooked nose, reshape the tip, remove a hump, and improve the angle between the nose and upper lip. In repairing the physical attributes with rhinoplasty, I can also improve breathing issues. I am uniquely trained in functional nasal surgery, including septal perforation repair, septoplasty, reduction of inferior turbinates, and reconstructive procedures to improve breathing. Your rhinoplasty will be carefully planned so you can have a nose that achieves your aesthetic goals, balances well with your features, and allows you to breathe well.

Who can benefit from rhinoplasty?
Adults of any age are potential candidates for rhinoplasty as long as they are in good overall health. Rhinoplasty should only be considered when the face has reached its full adult size and is finished growing. We determine this by waiting one year after a girl has started her period and one year after a boy’s shoe size has remained the same.
Nose surgery can be performed on both males and females. Each nose is different and so are the desires and goals for each patient. Dr. Sturm works with each patient to devise an individualized surgical goal.
The best candidates for any surgical procedure do not smoke and are in good physical health. Candidacy can best be determined during a consultation with Dr. Sturm.
Can I get a smaller nose?
A common reason patients choose rhinoplasty is to reduce the size of their nose. Dr. Sturm can reduce a bulbous nasal tip, refine a wide bridge, reduce the size of the nostrils, and soften prominent characteristics while maintaining the essential qualities that make each patient unique.
Can I get a more feminine or masculine nose?
Yes. Dr. Sturm can make the nose appear more feminine, or more masculine, by refining the nasal contour and reducing or increasing the size. She performs nasal feminization on anyone who desires a more feminine nose. And for men who want a more masculine nose, she can widen the bridge, tip, or even nostrils.
Will rhinoplasty make me breath better?
If you have difficulty breathing through your nose, you may have a deviated septum (the divider between the two sides), enlarged turbinates, or narrow internal nasal valves. Dr. Sturm can perform septoplasty to straighten the septum and enlarge the nasal airway, achieve turbinate reduction, or widen the internal nasal valves so you can breathe better.
Improved Nasal Shape
Dr. Sturm can improve the shape of the nose in a variety of ways, including narrowing, widening, and straightening the nose, reshaping the nasal tip, removing a hump, and improving the angle between the nose and upper lip. Each rhinoplasty is individualized to your nose and your goals.
What is revision rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty repairs cosmetic or functional problems that resulted from a previous surgery. It is a very common procedure due to the complexity of nose surgery, changed or absent normal anatomy, and the healing process. Since revision rhinoplasty is usually a more complicated procedure, it requires a surgeon with specific training in rhinoplasty, such as Dr. Sturm.

Will I have scars?
Scars with rhinoplasty are typically small, undetectable, and fade with time. The incisions are hidden in inconspicuous areas like the natural creases or at the base of the nose.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
General anesthesia is used during surgery, which will keep you asleep and pain-free. Pain after rhinoplasty is mild; Dr. Sturm can prescribe pain medication that will help keep you comfortable.
What is rhinoplasty recovery like?
Recovery time from rhinoplasty is about seven to 10 days. No painful nasal packing will be used, and your nose will be protected by a splint during the first five days. Because the skin around your eyes is thin, this tends to bruise instead of the nose. The eyes may be bruised and swollen for a few days up to a week. Even though it takes several months for the majority of swelling to resolve and a full year for all of the nasal swelling to subside, you will see a noticeable improvement when the splint is removed. The nose is taped until day 10 to minimize swelling. You can return to work, school, and most other daily activities after this.
How much does rhinoplasty cost?
The cost of rhinoplasty will depend on several factors, such as the extent of the procedure, whether it is primary or revision surgery, and whether it is combined with another procedure. Since every person’s surgical plan is different, it is recommended that you schedule a consultation so a precise cost estimate can be determined for you.
